OSCODA – Oscoda Township Police Department (OTPD) Officer Greg Alexander was recently recognized with an Award of Merit, for “exceptional conduct and meritorious service in the performance of his duties,” as stated by OTPD Interim Chief Allan MacGregor.

According to MacGregor, on Dec. 14, the OTPD and the Oscoda Township Fire Department were dispatched to a fully involved residential fire within the township. (Additional details about the incident, were provided in the Dec. 17 edition of this publication).

Upon arrival at the scene, Alexander discovered that a male occupant was still trapped inside the residence. Demonstrating swift action, Alexander gained entry through an exterior window and ensured the occupant’s safe exit from the residence.

Per MacGregor, “The rescued occupant was suffering from heavy smoke inhalation and facial bleeding.” Alexander experienced minor smoke inhalation during the rescue, as well, and was treated on the scene.

Both Alexander and the man that he rescued were then transported by ambulance, for additional medical treatment at a local hospital.

According to the documentation accompanying the Award of Merit certificate, “Without the immediate and courageous actions of Officer Alexander, the outcome of this incident may have been tragic.”

MacGregor praised the award recipient for his actions, stating, “Officer Alexander distinguished himself as a true law enforcement professional and brought great pride to the citizens of Oscoda and AuSable Townships, as well as to the Oscoda Township Police Department.”
